fate vs free will

I believe that most things are determined by a higher being (god). but somethings are determined by the choices you make as a person. example, If you walk in to a store and pull a gun and rob the place, you are gonna go to jail or the mourg. something like that was not determined by a higher being. He gives you the nessesitys for life and gives you the tools, chances etc. but it is ultamatley up to you what happens.
